Trending Tuesday: Crazy for Cobalt

Dumb Ways to Die: Cute Animation, Serious Message

5 Jun

Here is an example of a public service announcement that works. A cute song and accompanying animation deliver Melbourne Metro’s train safety message aimed at the young and dumb. Yes, the proof will be in the pudding but with over 16 million YouTube views thus far, I think we’re placing pretty safe bets.

***Update***

This is a repost from The Wondery’s original blog (from late last year) as we are merging our two creative ventures. It turns out we were onto something! The Dumb Ways to Die video has just won double Grand Prix in PR and Direct categories at Cannes!!

Photography Inspiration: It’s cloudy in here…

3 Jun

How beautiful is this photographic art by Berndnaut Smilde? According to Design Squish, the artist creates his dreamy subjects with a smoke machine, moist conditions and dramatic lighting. Although beautiful and inspiring, I kind of feel sorry for the cloud trapped indoors… is that weird?!

Love: Amy and Matt’s Engagement Party

31 May

It’s been a crazy few months for us at Follow that Faun as we’ve been setting up our new design studio, The Wondery. Bianca and I had our first official day of work the Monday after my engagement party back in March and it feels like we haven’t stopped for air since! We have been meaning to share these piccies with you since then… I hope you can forgive our tardiness!

M and I had our engagement party in my fiance’s grandparent’s gorgeous garden and we really wanted to have an open-air space… but it was not to be! It rained for weeks right up until the day before the event so we hired a marquee, just to be safe! Although the rain thankfully stayed away on the day, the marquee ended up being a lovely space just the same.

Our theme is possibly best described as the lovechild of a mermaid and a sailor… but perhaps more eloquently: nautical meets glitter with a palette of gold, red, navy blue and mint.

With the help of some (almost) willing family and friends, we made the tissue paper tassel garlands and glitter spot garlands. Don’t ask me how many we made! We bought the cute navy and white striped bags from The Party Table and the heart pegs from Emerald+Ella. Invitations and stationery design by The Wondery.

M’s grandfather made us cute little chalkboard signs to point our guests to the party and the marquee was lit up with gorgeous golden string lights.

There were plenty of seats to choose from! We hired the chairs from Hodge Podge Hire and the arm chairs were an ebay bargain!

A massive thank you to our friends and family for helping make our engagement party a beautiful night!

Daily Dishonesty

11 Apr

Daily Dishonesty is a hand-lettering blog that Lauren Hom started during her senior year of college. It combines her love of typography, humor, copywriting, and illustration. The blog documents the lies she (and us all) tell ourselves on a regular basis. The type treatments on her posters is just stunning and creates fun excitement to our graphic designer souls.

If you want to start your own hand lettering series check out her tutorial on her process from start to finish. You can also buy prints from the series at her Society6 shop and remind yourself of your daily dishonesties.

Big changes are happening in the studio and we are updating the website with new projects so make sure to come back and explore The Wondery soon. In the meantime feel free to contact us for your next design project from blogs, logos to website design.

Into the Garden

9 Apr

Into the Garden is a new spring season campaign by Anthropologie. Their new store window treatments just took our breath away and if you have ever had the opportunity to stroll through their stores you know the creativity doesn’t stop there. We have always loved their stunning window styling with lots of attention to detail and uniquely different to the rest of the retailers. They really make you stop, look and imagine these beautiful places with them. The hand crafted flowers, fruits and veggies creates an exciting garden environment that compliments their season colours perfectlyHere are some more examples of their window styling campaigns for Christmas and Spring.

Trending Tuesday: Acrylic

2 Apr

This week we’re loving the versatile material that is acrylic! It goes by many names including perspex, plexiglass and the more technical poly methyl methacrylate. Whatever you like to call it, acrylic is a wondrous substance that lends itself to making virtually anything. From jewellery to furniture and everything in between, acrylic isn’t a new trend but it’s one that seems to continually produce new and creative products.

If you fancy designing your own laser-cut acrylic items, it’s easy to make your own at Ponoko. Their acrylic is available in a great range of colours. You simply submit your design and choose your colour and voila! your designs become a reality!

DIY: Easter Egg Terrariums

22 Mar

diy tutorial how to make easter egg terrariums

Easter is nearly here and if you go into a supermarket you’ll likely find yourself drowning in Easter eggs. As delicious as they are, being surrounded by their chocolatey charms is not great for those trying to limit their sugar/fat/insert-health-concern-here. This is precisely why we just adore this clever little DIY tutorial by the beautiful Brittany of The House That Lars Built. Also, terrariums are cool! See the full DIY instructions and more darling pics here.

Nina Say Cheese

23 Jan

Our hearts just melted when we saw this adorable toddler photography by Vanessa Lewis. Vanessa took it upon herself to create an amazing toddler photography studio when she couldn’t find a decent portrait studio to take pictures of her child Nina. In her studio, kids are photographed in adorable sets re-enacting their actual playtime. Themes include, circus, forest, pilot and tea time. Not your standard portrait studio, make sure to stop by if you are visiting South Africa. Go see the rest of the images here.
